Mala and Sean had one of those fairytale romantic first encounters; their eyes shot across the room and connected sending butterfly’s through both of their souls. His radiant smile made Mala blush and her beauty and charm won Sean over instantly (or two years later). Their first encounter wasn’t in the south of France while sipping pinot or in Thailand while excavating century old gothic text. It was in what Mala denotes to as the “Sexiest Place in the Federal Government” – the Census Bureau.
Their work romance started on a work trip to California where Sean worked to impress Mala with his knowledge of the 2010 census of Population and Housing report. Mala’s eyes sparkled at the jokes that only true staticians would understand. Over time they began bonding over the World Cup, puppy memes, Buffalo Bill’s dance moves a la Silence of the Lambs, and South Park. As their relationship prospered they traded in South Park for wine and cheese, puppy memes for a love of travel as they explored Japan and a love for each other that never slowed down.
In early July 2014 Sean took Mala to a location they frequented quite often (potentially the Sexiest place in the National Park Services) and had some of Sean’s fondest memories as their relationship evolved. From the walks they shared down the Mount Vernon Trail, Picnics overlooking the Potomac River and conversation that made Sean fall ever more in love with Mala. He took her to Mount Vernon where he took Mala off the beaten path, got down on one knee and asked Mala to make him the happiest person in the world. She gleefully accepted.
Less than a year later Mala and Sean set off to the next chapter in their lives as they agreed to become husband and wife. Not once but twice with a stunning Christian Ceremony in the heart of Baltimore at the Baltimore Basilica followed by a heartwarming and intimidate Hindu ceremony at the Grand Historic Venue. Both weddings were followed by a reception where family and friends gave heartwarming speeches, performed choreographed dances and celebrated the night away.
