As the clock hit 3:30AM Surya stumbled out of bed; she was barely able to sleep due to her excitement and she knew she had a long day ahead of her. She started to get ready; her hair, makeup, and clothes it all came together slowly but surely. The realization of the day set in as did the size of her smile.
Prithvi was a few floors down and still sound asleep, his wakeup call wasn’t until 5:30AM and Surya did everything in her power not to wake him up early. As Prithvi woke up he showered, relaxed and spent time with his father, laughing, joking, simply enjoying their quality time together.
Their wedding was scheduled to start at 7:00AM (late start time…apparently) and as Surya and Prithvi arrived at the temple, they did nothing but hug family and smile. The day that they have both been planning for over a year was finally about to begin. Their bridal party met them at the temple early to get a few quick pictures before the wedding was to start and their friends and family were all there to witness the beautiful wedding that was about to unfold. With over 400 guests in attendance; there were points in the ceremony where it was standing room only. Everyone came out to see these two wonderful people get married and they loved every moment of it.
The wedding was filled with rich South Indian culture and tradition; Prithvi entered with an umbrella, fan and cane; they both sat on the Joomla as family circled, Surya was given lavish clothing and jewelry to change into and they walked around the traditional fire. Surya took seven steps with the help of Prithvi as they looked at the stars of their ancestors.
After the wedding Surya and Prithvi played traditional games, had friends and family sing songs, perform dancing and simply enjoying the merriment of such a wonderful wedding. Upon the conclusion of the games everyone ate lunch and started to get ready for the beautiful reception.
Prior to the wedding, Prithvi wanted to spend time with his groomsmen and friends; he had his own cocktail hour of sorts as his friends congregated, reminisced and spoke of all the good times they had with Prithvi. They regaled about their college days, the courting period of Surya and Prithvi’s relationship and their tame bachelor party.
The reception was filled with humorous speeches from family, songs sang by the mothers and a 22 person dance by all the friends. There was cake cutting, a first dance and then an all out party. Wedding guests never left the dance floor; singing at the top of their lungs, dancing into the wee hours of the night, enjoying the fine sprits and loving each others company. Friends and family traveled the globe to see these two get married; during the reception everyone had the time of their lives.
